Memorial Day Weekend!!

It’s a little late however, I wanted to post about our Memorial day weekend boat trip. We finally made the run down teh Cape Fear River from Castle Haynes to Wrightsville Beach. This is a trip I have wanted to do for some time and it was a lot better than I had ever hoped. I want to give a shout out to my courageous crew; Scott, Robbie, and Caroline.

We started the long weekend by heading down to Rocky Point NC, which is a little north of Castle Haynes NC, where we stayed at Nate and Daniels place. We had a great time there Friday night chillien in the barn and hanging with the peacocks. Saturday was overcast and cold so we didn’t do much in the AM. We finally got the boats in the water and camped off the river that night.

Sunday we refueled and trailered the boats to Castle Haynes to save time. After a short stop at a railroad tussle and a minor run-in with the law we embarked on our 3 hour tour. We headed south on the cape fear towards Wilmington. It was a really nice run, we even did some wake boarding along the way.

It took us about an hour and a half to get to Downtown Wilmington, where we dropped it down to boosecruze speed and Scott refueled on Capitan Morgan. We thought about stopping for a bite to eat at on the waterfront. however decided if we we going to make it all the way to Wrightsville we better stay on course. The Wilmington water front was really cool, we cruised by the USS North Carolina and the port of Wilmington.

After that we bumped it up a notch and roughed the mighty mouth of the Cape Fear. This was a jarring half an hour but we just wanted to get this part out of the way. Once we got in to Snows Cut it was smooth sailing. We stopped and let Robbie out to blow off some energy where he climbed the steep dunes from the dredging barges and rolled down like a rodeo clown.

Once in the intercoastal we cruised past Carolina Beach and on towards Masonborough. This was great fun and made the trip all worth wile, ‘Beers For Days’ as some would say. We lucked out since it was late in the day and most of the Memorial Day madness had thinned out. We pulled up to the party cove between Masonborough and Wrightsville and watched some of the hardcore partying.

By this time it was staring to get dark. We finished up the odyssey with a nice cruise to the Wrightsville boat ramp. where Robbie and I grabbed a cab to my truck. which we had dropped off at Daniels apt complex.

This was a great weekend, as we like to call it, a successful recon mission for many more boat trips to come. I hope to have some pics up soon stay tuned.
